Appointments Available for Adults & Children (finally!)

We are pleased to have some current availability for new clients after very having limited appointment options since 2020.

Unfortunately, we are not able to facilitate any appointments after 4pm, and so some flexibility is required for attending appointments as they are available at varying times during the day.

Due to the high amount of circulating COVID and other respiratory illnesses we are asking that sessions revert to telehealth if people experience symptoms on the day.

Rebecca Findlow Increases Her Days to Include a 5th Day of Telehealth

Rebecca Findlow has increased the number of days she is available with the addition of more telehealth appointments. Rebecca is in high demand, particularly for couples therapy, and she can now offer a 5th day of appointments on a Thursday, which will be available via ZOOM or phone.

Rebecca is also now offering The Gottman Relationship Checkup, a tool created by John and Julie Gottman of the Gottman Institute as a part of her couples therapy. The Gottman Relationship Checkup is an evaluation of the strengths and challenges in a relationship that is guided and administered by a registered clinician. There is an extra charge with this new service.

Congratulations to Ellie Mackey

While pursuing her honours degree in psychology, Ellie participated in the World's Challenge Challenge, a global problem-solving competition to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

She was one of four students from Bond University who were awarded second place for the app Vybu (pronounced vibe you),
designed to reduce the stigma around mental health by facilitating connection and helping users access helpful psychological knowledge. Users can listen to voice messages pre-recorded by loved ones when they feel they need support.

The World's Challenge Challenge invited students from universities worldwide to participate in the competition.

New Clinical Handout on Flow

Chris has written a new clinical handout on the topic of flow. Flow, a key ingredient of well-being, typically involves acting in an automatic and spontaneous way whilst voluntarily pursuing a challenging goal. Experiencing flow is one of the most reliable ways of consistently enhancing one’s quality of life.

The practice opinion pieces for the Geelong Advertiser continue on Mondays monthly.

The most recent article was:

An Article about a particularly invigorating way to start the day, cold-water swimming.

This article, along with many more, can be read here on our website or via our Facebook Page

The practice podcast, Psych Spiels and Silver Linings has continued to release weekly episodes.

The most recent episode, Developing a Perspective on Panic, looked at panic attacks, their cause and what we can do to help reduce their impact.

In the episodes previous, we had a series on the benefits of exercise for mental health. In Exploring the Evolution of Exercise, we looked at the history of exercise and what we can learn about our own attitudes to exercise from looking at how people thought of exercise in the past. Then in The Barriers Beyond the Barriers, we looked at some barriers to exercise and how we can overcome them. Chris also spoke about his recent positive experience with cold-water swimming in the morning.

In Ease Agitation with Bilateral Stimulation, we looked at a novel therapy technique for anxiety that anyone can use at home called bilateral stimulation. We also have a video on our website / YouTube channel to illustrate this same topic.

You can listen to the podcast on your favourite podcast player or at psychspiels.com.au

If you've enjoyed the podcast, we would really appreciate it if you could rate and review the podcast as this will extend the reach to others who may benefit.

As well as keeping you up to date on all the latest news in the practice we will also be including some resources that you will hopefully find helpful. They include:

  • A meaningful quote
  • A framework from psychology that you may find useful
  • A helpful article
  • A good podcast
